Fairview’s traditional Ukrainian Veselka Dancers put on their Spring show to wrap up the 2018-19 dance season. They have travelled to three different competitions this year, earning gold medals and faring well against dance groups from much larger centres. With 40 dancers they were able to give all age groups their opportunity to shine on stage with various dances from different ethnic groups in the Ukraine. The groups also took the stage in a play “Memories” with Gido and Baba recalling the old days when they first arrived in Canada and neighbours came to help them build their first house and various other happenings in their life. The Gypsy dance was really attention grabbing with costumes that made the dancers look like flames dancing around the stage as well as the flamboyant dance moves. The beginners stole the stage with their appearance doing the Pershay Chas as well as playing the part of perogies in the Memories play. Mac Fingerhut and Gracie Ferguson were recognized for their years of dancing because this is their last year with Veselka before they head off to further their educations elsewhere. During the show, the two put their heart and soul into an amazing performance with two duets as well as the group numbers. Dance instructor Debbie Kachmar-Potter was recognized not just for the great job she does teaching, but also for the fact she drives up from Edmonton every week to do that teaching. She recognized all the parents for the work they put in on transportation, costumes and other aspects of the dance troupe.
